A laundry membership is a recurring plan, usually billed monthly, that covers your laundry service for as long as you keep paying. You skip the order-by-order checkout and get a set amount of laundry handled on a schedule. In New York, our 5 Boro Laundry plans run $69, $89 or $109 a month. Below you’ll find what memberships usually include, what they cost across the US, and the questions to ask before you sign up.
TL;DR
- A membership is a monthly fee for continuing laundry service. Paying per order bills each pickup or wash-and-fold order separately.
- US examples run from about $110 to $260 a month for two to eight bags, with extra bags priced separately.
- Plans are usually built around household size: singles, couples, families, students or businesses.
- Before joining, check the volume limit, the overage price, the pickup schedule, the service area and how to cancel.
- Our NYC plans are Bronze at $69 per month, Silver at $89 per month and Gold at $109 per month.

What a laundry membership is
Trade press defines a laundry subscription or membership as a usually monthly fee paid in exchange for continuing laundry service during the chosen period. Service continues while you keep paying. Many plans renew automatically using a card on file, so the billing runs without you thinking about it.
The pay-per-order alternative is simple. You book a pickup, a wash-and-fold order or a dry cleaning drop-off, you pay for that order, and nothing continues afterward. There is no commitment, but there is also no standing arrangement. You decide, book and pay again every time.
The difference is less about the laundry and more about how you want to run your week:
| Membership | Pay per order | |
|---|---|---|
| Billing | Fixed monthly amount | Charged for each order |
| Scheduling | Often a standing weekly or recurring slot | Booked each time |
| Budget | Predictable from month to month | Varies with how much you send |
| Commitment | Renews until you cancel | None after the order |
| Best for | Steady, repeating laundry volume | Occasional or unpredictable needs |
What memberships usually include
Most memberships are wash-and-fold plans measured in bags, loads or pounds. Some add pickup and delivery. The same trade source notes that plans are commonly segmented by household size or customer group, such as singles, couples, families and college students. One student plan it describes covers up to 200 pounds over six months.
A laundry technology provider publishes example tiers that show how volume scales with the household. These are illustrative operator tiers, not a quote from any one company:
| Plan type | Example price | Example volume |
|---|---|---|
| Student | $75 to $125 a month | 15 to 20 lbs a week |
| Couple | $129 to $179 a month | 30 to 40 lbs a week |
| Family | $199 to $299 a month | 50 to 75 lbs a week |
| Commercial | $399 to $999 a month | 100+ lbs a week |
The same page notes that commercial plans can include daily or bi-weekly pickups, net-30 payment terms and premium support. If you run a salon, gym, restaurant or clinic, that is closer to a service contract than a consumer membership. See our commercial laundry services for towels, uniforms, medical linen and hotel laundry.
What a laundry membership costs in the US
Prices vary by city, volume and whether pickup and delivery are included. American Coin-Op’s survey of operators gives these U.S. examples from 2023:
- $110 a month for two standard bags, $160 for four and $260 for eight.
- $35 for each extra bag beyond the plan.
- $159 a month for 14 loads, or $219 a month for 32 loads, at another operator.
- Half-year in-store student plans starting at $370 for up to 200 pounds.
Treat these as a range, not a price list. They are a few years old, and New York costs, from labor to rent, tend to push local prices up.
The number that matters is not the monthly fee. It is the monthly fee divided by what you actually send. A $160 plan that you fill every week costs less per bag than a $110 plan that you exceed by three bags a month at $35 each. Work out your own numbers first:
- Count how many bags or loads you wash in a typical four weeks.
- Add the price of any overage you would likely hit.
- Compare that total to what you pay per order today.

When a membership makes sense
A membership pays off when your laundry is regular. That describes most of the people we serve:
- Busy professionals who send a similar amount every week and want it gone from the to-do list.
- Families whose laundry never really stops, and who value a fixed monthly line in the budget.
- Couples and roommates who can share one plan instead of juggling separate trips.
- Small businesses with steady towel or linen turnover.
Trade sources describe the same logic from the operator side: memberships replace the volatility of one-time transactions with predictable monthly income. For you, the mirror image is predictable spending and a routine that runs on its own. The same trade source also acknowledges that some people prefer pay-as-you-go, which suits irregular laundry, such as a month of travel.
If your volume swings a lot, choose the plan for your normal month and handle spikes as add-ons. Choosing for your busiest month means paying for capacity you rarely use.
What to check before you join
Plans that look alike on the surface can behave very differently. Ask these questions before you enter a card number:
- Volume limit. Is it measured in bags, loads or pounds? Who decides what counts as a bag?
- Overage price. What do you pay for the extra bag, and is it the same rate as your plan?
- Pickup and delivery fees. Are they included, or billed on top of the monthly price?
- Schedule. Is the pickup slot fixed, or can you move it in a busy week?
- Turnaround. How many days from pickup to delivery, and is same-day available?
- Service area. Does the provider cover your building and your neighborhood?
- Renewal and cancellation. Does the plan renew automatically, and how do you cancel? Is there notice, a minimum term or a penalty?
- Skipped weeks. If you travel, can you pause, or do unused bags expire?
- Care standards. Which detergents are used, and can you request hypoallergenic products for sensitive skin?
- Dry cleaning. Is it included, or priced separately?
The answers should be in writing on the provider’s plan page or terms. If you can’t find them, ask before you subscribe. Auto-renewal is common in this category, so confirm the cancellation steps now, not when you want out.
Our perspective on laundry memberships
We have spent more than 20 years caring for New Yorkers’ clothes, and the question we hear most is not “how much?” but “how much will it be next month?” That is what a membership answers.
Our approach is built around predictability. We publish our plan prices, we do not charge pickup or delivery fees, and our pickup and delivery are handled by our own dedicated, in-house staff rather than a rotating pool of third parties. In our experience, that consistency is what makes a recurring plan feel effortless: the same people, the same routine, the same care for your garments.
We also design our service around a flat-rate laundry bag with no weight limit, so you pack as much as fits and are not counting pounds at the door. Our formula is designed around premium, hypoallergenic detergents, because laundry touches your skin all day.
If your laundry repeats every week, a plan is the simplest way to stop thinking about it. Pick the tier that matches a normal month, and let us handle the rest.

Our NYC laundry membership plans
We offer three monthly plans for households and professionals across Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens:
| Plan | Price |
|---|---|
| Bronze | $69 per month |
| Silver | $89 per month |
| Gold | $109 per month |
What each plan includes is listed on our laundry subscription packages page. That page is the place to compare tiers before you book. For a feel for the day-to-day, read how subscription packages make weekly chores easier to manage.

Not ready for a plan? You can still book a one-time wash and fold order or professional dry cleaning with pickup and delivery, then move to a plan once your routine settles.
Membership versus pickup on demand
The choice is not only plan or no plan. Think about three typical New York situations.
A single professional in a Manhattan apartment. One steady weekly load, no time to carry it anywhere. A lower tier with a standing pickup removes the weekly decision. Our guide to wash and fold pickup in NYC explains what the routine looks like.
A family in Brooklyn or Queens. Bigger volume and more variation, with sports gear and bedding on top of daily clothes. A higher tier gives a fixed monthly figure, and the flat-rate bag with no weight limit helps when the volume spikes. Our overview of pickup and delivery versus traditional laundromat services covers the time and cost differences.
A small business. A gym, spa or restaurant with daily towel and uniform turnover needs a commercial arrangement, not a household plan. We cover towel rental and linen services for NYC businesses, and the right setup depends on your volume and pickup frequency.

If you need a rush, our same-day laundry service is available as an option, which a plan alone may not cover.
How to start
- Estimate your normal month in bags or loads.
- Pick the tier that covers it with a small margin.
- Read the plan page for what is included, then confirm your address is in the service area.
- Choose your first pickup day and set out your bag.
- After the first month, compare what you used against the plan and adjust the tier up or down.
That last step matters. A plan is not a lock-in on a guess. It is a starting point you tune once you see your real usage.
FAQ
Is a laundry membership worth it?
It is worth it when your laundry is steady and you value a predictable monthly bill and a fixed routine. If you send very little or your volume swings widely, paying per order may cost less. Compare your normal month against the plan price and the overage rate before deciding.
How much does a laundry membership cost?
In the US, published examples range from about $110 to $260 a month for two to eight bags, with extra bags billed separately. Our NYC plans are Bronze at $69 per month, Silver at $89 per month and Gold at $109 per month.
Can I cancel a laundry membership?
Policies differ by provider, and many plans renew automatically using a card on file. Look for the notice period, any minimum term and the steps to cancel on the plan page or terms before you subscribe. If anything is unclear, ask in writing.
What happens if I have more laundry than my plan covers?
Most providers charge for extra volume. One published example prices an extra bag at $35. Ask for your provider’s overage rate up front, or move to a higher tier if you hit it every month.
Is a laundry membership the same as a laundromat membership?
Not quite. A laundromat membership typically covers use of machines in the store, while a pickup and delivery plan like ours has your laundry collected, washed, folded and returned. Choose by whether you want to do the work yourself or hand it off.
